Rock Island Farm, Orono, MaineDescription Small family farm of 62 acres, located on Route 2 just north of Veazie and Bangor, and not far from Route 95. We want to maintain and improve some of Orono's last remaining farmland, using sustainable practices. Our goal is to grow a small business producing hay and fresh, locally grown vegetables for the community. We also want to maintain some field as bird nesting habitat (see bobolinks off-site). Fresh, local vegetables We grow vegetables for our own consumption and winter storage. We're working toward a farm stand as we expand vegetable production each year. Please keep an eye out for vegetables for sale along the road by the farm.
Grass hay (square bales) Availability and price
Contact. Please contact us to arrange a time to come by concerning hay.
Pre-sales. We prefer to sell hay after it is baled and stored (once we have it in the barn). That way, we know the quality of the hay we are selling, and we don't risk promising something we can't deliver. Other places to get hay. See the Maine Hay Directory from UM Cooperative Extension for hay producers/sellers. Blue Seal Feeds & Needs in Bangor also usually has some hay. Sheep No sheep are for sale at this time. Please support your local farms.
The farm name -- Someone took great care years ago to clear the hayfield of rocks, leaving some piled in the middle of the field. Shrubs grew over the pile, and the previous owner called this spot "Rock Island". All material on rockislandfarm.com is © H.L. Richardson, 2007 - 2012 unless otherwise attributed. |
